    Dargo area suggestions

Thank you to everyone for the help. Will keep an eye on the weather - I think there's some rain forecast Wednesday which may change where we end up.

    Dargo area suggestions

Hi everyone, My wife and I have a few three days off from work after the labour day long weekend. We are keen to head up to the Dargo area. Will be taking the offroad camper and like the idea of setting up once then being able to head off for short trips throughout our stay. The camper is self...

    O'Tooles Flat

Thanks for the advice everyone, Got up there Saturday arvo and there had been about 20mm overnight. The river was up a fair way so we camped at Merringtons. Crossed the river this morning and it was no issues, it had definitely dropped a lot in 36 hours - was maybe 3 ft deep at the most. 1st...

So crossing one - swing right to left Crossing two - swing left to right? Starting to sound like cricket commentary.

Camper trailer solar and battery upgrade for a freezer

Hi Aaron, Very informative link and a great build. Well done to you. I'm in the food industry myself. I agree with some comments saying that you may not need to run the freezer at -18, but it's your call and it will definitely snap freeze the fillets. You've built a great system capable of...

    O'Tooles Flat

If she's up that high I don't think we will bother with it. One of the BT50s is a freestyle cab PK model (3LT 4 cylinder) which doesn't have a locker. It's also pretty light in the rear and doesn't have aggressive ATs. I'm sure my Ranger would be right with that depth but there's no need to...

    O'Tooles Flat

Thanks Outrage, I think we will head in Walhalla Rd / Merrintongs Tk. If water levels are up we may just camp at Merringtons. We've had a fair bit of snow recently but it's also been cold so we may not have had too much 'melt' yet. We will see. Also expecting a bit of rain this week and snow...

    O'Tooles Flat

Hey guys, A few mates and I are heading up to O'Tooles in a few weeks. I've never been there but given the annual meet up there I'm guessing someone will be able to advise on the best route to take from Tyers. Three of us have mildly capable 4wds - My Ranger with lift, 32 inch ATs, snorkel...

    Fraser Island to Melbourne

Strewth. I'm with Telstra too. Couldn't care about not having reception (nice to have a break form the world) but I guess that means we can't book a site on the run. So the only real answer is to pre-book. Turn up to a site that has been taken by somebody who hasn't booked, then move to a site...

    Fraser Island to Melbourne

Any suggestion on campsites to pick? We will be 100% self sufficient. Would love to be away form children and tourist bus crowds. Keeping in mind we will have the trailer, apparently the only potentially tricky areas to get through are Ngkala rocks and Indian head? However the Ranger shouldn't...

    Fraser Island to Melbourne

Thanks for your advice re tides. I grew up on the ocean and have a great respect for tides and the effect of onshore/offshore winds.

    Fraser Island to Melbourne

Ive got no issue booking a campsite, but as stated...how are you meant to know where you want to be on any given night? What a PITA. Is it a realistic thing to use the mobile site and book on the go? e.g. arrive in an area we like, jump on the website and book?

    Fraser Island to Melbourne

Cheers Matt I will probably shy away form Caravan parks. Don't mind one night here or there for a warm shower though. I love the idea of getting north and tucking in behind the dunes somewhere. Is it common practice to set up a campsite and head out for the day?

    Fraser Island to Melbourne

Hey everyone, I know there is a few Fraser threads going around but as I've never been I though it would be ok to start another, tailored to my questions. My fiancee and I are heading from Melbourne to Fraser Island (via Brisbane to collect our camper trailer) in late November. Planning on...

    GPS advice

Thanks for all of your advice guys. Much appreciated. I ended up buying an iPad mini for a great price, and have loaded HEMA 4WD maps onto it. I used it up around Warburton during the week and it works a treat (even with all of the closed gates :(). I've bought a Brodit Proclip and iPad mount...
