i am coming from S.A and havent been here before is there going to be a map of directions with the best way to get here. it would be muchly apreciated.

One non-4wd way to get there. Head to Dargo via main roads, north from Dargo onto Dargo high Plains Rd, left onto Grant Rd, left/continue onto Grant Tk, right/continue onto Mcmillans Rd - continue to Talbotville Campsite.

Dargo High Plains Rd is steep uphill (heading north)/very long, tarmac rd.

Becomes dirt once you hit Grant Rd, Mcmillans is narrow with cliff/steep drop off on north side of track. Some spots to pass oncoming traffic, but otherwise only big enough for 1 vehicle, so take care.

Other method involves river crossings, but does not have the long steep section you get with Dargo High Plains. This involves turning left onto Wonnangatta/Crooked River Rd before you reach Dargo, follow this, turn right onto Crooked River Track (Turn off is at the Kingswell Bridge, eastern side of the river). Continue on this track and it takes you to Talbotville, has 3-5 river crossings, a really narrow section with steep drop/cliff on one side and a hairpin just before that section. This method is all dirt once you hop onto Wonnangatta/Crooked River Rd.

Other ways to get there but they are 4wd based.

Without upsetting anyone - for those without a GPS or unsure of how to get to Talbotville or where it actually is - Roof top map Dargo -wonnangatta adventure map .
On the map Talbotville is high lighted in the Grant historic area if you are coming from bright the adjoining Bright -mansfield map may also be of help .

Just go to Wellington cross the ferry then head for Coonalpyn and follow your nose to Melbourne then follow SE Freeway to Traralgon then to Dargo and pick up a map at the general store and find your way to Talbotville which isn't all that far from Dargo, Or why not follow the Luxes over.

Sent moparcom a PM saying just that Grumpy but of course Trish and I will do the usual and head to yours first, the night before. Hope our bedroom will be available?

When i buy Rooftop Maps, they bring them out already laminated and foldable at that (my other maps, not rooftop i had to go and get done, pain in the butt)...Instead of buying it in paper i suggest you pay an extra 10 bucks for the laminated ones...Then you can put on the bonnet (don't worry about it getting dirty) and if ya spill our coffee on it who cares,it just wipes off and they don't rip along the fold lines....

Maybe useless info for some and not for others....Just a suggestion

This is the map that GOR was talking about in his previous post.....

Well last night it was a great meeting some real exciting things going to happen on our great trip! Everyone keep posted! We have a huge raffle with all proceeds to go to help the local area.
Make sure you let Mans know how many kiddies you have on the trip so she can plan for ativities. http://www.4x4earth.com.au/forum/victoria/20520-talbotville-kids-2012-a.html
The committee made a few very imprtant decisions.
Make sure everyone gets your t-shirts and polo's ordered as the cut off date is fast approaching.
The famous duck race, camp oven cook off and geocaching events are all set to go!
Come on November I cant wait :D:D

And be sure to spell my name correctly.
It's Slart_i_bartfast with an 'i' (not with a 'y').
:)

Edit: I turned up at a 'name-taged' event the other week and they called me "Hilary".
Oh the shame

Is there any mini meets along the way organized for early Thursday morning 15th somewhere alone the Princes Hwy??
So people that are registered for the event, but are unfamiliar with the area & how to get there, can tag along in a convoy. Example, the Longworry turn off BP servo.
Any volunteers to lead a convoy??

Cheers

I got your rego form. What to do?? You could start packing!
Keep your eyes on the first page of the post for who is going and which day they are arriving. You will also see updates on what trips are scheduled, when and who is running them.

You could start a post on Thursday convoy and see how you go.
Hint. BP Longwarry is now Caltex Longwarry..
