Since 1999…

The Discovery four wheel driving club of Australia was formed by an enthusiastic group of four wheel drivers who’s intentions were to create a club that would show its members the great outdoors experience they were so passionate about. The founders of the Discovery four wheel driving club remembered the excitement they experienced at their first 4wd outings and how it made them aware of the bush and the pleasure it brought. The club would be dedicated to just four wheel driving and / or camping, from simple one day trips to exploring the worlds most isolated track like the Canning Stock Route.

Still to this day the values of the founding members are evident. When you join the Discovery four wheel drive club you will be taught how best to prepare your vehicle, how to cook a fabulous dinner in a cast iron camp oven over an open fire, and how to have fun with great like minded people out in the bush you never dreamed possible.
The Discovery four wheel driving club accepts all makes of 4WD Vehicles providing it has a dual range gear box and long reach suspension.

The Discovery four wheel driving club offers its members free driver training as many times as they like while their membership remains valid. Basic driver training, beach and sand driving, and advanced driver training are carried out by our highly experienced members that have met the requirements and accreditation of the 4wd Association of which the Discovery four wheel driving club is a member. Driver Training is usually carried out close to Sydney and we also have the use of the Eastern Creek 4WD track, for a small fee.

The club is all about giving back to its members. You will quickly discover the vast array of camping and 4WD-ing equipment other members have when participating on trips, and the ideas you will get from talking with them will prove to be invaluable. Discounts on 4WD equipment and camping gear are available to members as the club buys in a quantity and subsidises it offering at times some real bargains such as our tyre deflators and recovery equipment. Discounted insurance is also available as a member. Members also receive an informative newsletter each month via email.

There is a wide range of trips run each year. Some have become club favourites such as Bendethra, Clear Range, Stockton Beach, Lithgow, Turon River and Mt Airley. Surrounding areas of Sydney are popular with day trippers with more tracks soon to become available to associated clubs. The clubs Christmas party in November of each year is a must with the club spoiling its members with prawns and bubbly. Trips to the Simpson Desert, The Madigan Line and the Kimberley’s, Moreton Island and Fraser Island, Flinders Ranges, Victorian High Country and Cape York are all trips that members have run. Trips usually result in reaching a magnificent view, or that perfect uncrowded campsite on a pristine lagoon or river where you can wet a line or cool off. A decent campfire (weather permitting) is mandatory on all camping trips!

All trips are rated and lots are camper trailer friendly. Harder trips will require members to complete all forms of driver training and vehicles must be set up correctly so it will not be damaged. The club is always open to new trip suggestions!

The first Wednesday of each month the club’s General Meeting is held to plan new trips, hear about past trips and to meet new people with the same interest, as well as business in general.

Just come along to one of our meetings, get involved and ‘Discover’…
