Ophir

Campsite Description

..OPHIR..

Nice and peaceful Ophir.
Great place for Camping, 4wdriving, bush walking, prospecting and they say fishing.
$5 per vehicle per night.
More then plenty of Camping space for 4wdrivers but not much in the busy times for 2wdrivers.
4wd tracks around the creeks can get a bit hairy, big leans and large rocks and very ruff.
The other tracks seem fine for anyone with low range.
Lots of old mines and historic sites dating back to 1851
Even mines right at the main campsite that you can enter.
We managed to pan up a little bit of gold out of the river and we met a few more people there who had also found some gold that weekend.
There's many ways to Ophir, the way I went coming from Sydney is I turned right off the Mitchell Hwy just after Vittoria onto Cashens Ln, sign posted Ophir, then just followed the signs to Ophir.
Easy enough to access by 2wd but much easier and more to do and see if you have 4wd.

Check the weather before you go. It floods here and the evidence is big, check the photo's.
