Olney Headquarters

Campsite Description

Just had a great time camping at the very flat and spacious Olney Headquarters Camping grounds!
These grounds are just off the Watagan Forest Rd near the Wollombi Forest Rd. A little further down the road are more camping grounds - The Pines Casuarina and more.

This camp ground was serviced daily by a caretaker, emptying campground bins, cleaning the pit toilets.

These grounds do have rain water collected in tanks, however, it is not recommended for drinking.

Fire pits and wood fire BBQ were available in the camping grounds. Whilst there is a lot of wood available on the way into the camp grounds (from recent logging) I would bring your own wood.

Dogs are allowed as they are in all NSW State Forests.

There were a lot of 4x4 tracks near the camp grounds, from easy to very difficult.

I initially went down the Creek Rd Track, got to the bottom and found that this was a little out of my league. It was easy enough to turn around and backtrack. If I had a 4x4 with a good lift kit and tyres, I would have given this a go.

The German Point Rd track was good. The track narrows regularly and had some small mud holes.

After this track, I tried a few more before heading off.

If you are from Sydney, I suggest following the Wollombi Forest Rd and exiting onto the Great North Rd and head towards the Wiseman Ferry. This will take a little longer than returning to the Pacific Hwy or F3 and heading south, but is well worth it. You travel on gravel roads until the Wiseman Ferry crossing. From here you can cross at the ferry and head towards the hills district or go continue onto the F3 near Gosford.

We did come across a few Motor Bikes whilst traveling through the Olney Forest, so watch out for them.
