Maxwells Flat

Campsite Description
Maxwells Flat (GPS co-ordinates: 31.48640S 152.18698E) is a very good campground located on the banks of the diminutive Doyles River, and is popular with mountain bike riders and motor bikers due to the many mountain tracks in the vicinity. Access is easy via Apsley Highway, Knodingbull Road, then left onto Causeway Doyles Road. Maxwells Flat has a large grassy camping area and pit toilets. Paddling and (possibly) fishing in the river is available, although it is a very small and shallow watercourse. Camp fires are permitted dependent on restrictions.
Access from the other direction is more difficult and probably not suited to 2WD vehicles. Causeway Road in this direction is closed due to a bridge collapse. A water crossing next to the collapsed bridge looks to be quite challenging due to the steep banks. The alternative road in is along Racing Camp Road. It is somewhat overgrown and has wet, boggy patches. Causeway Road does offer the opportunity for a walk to, and beyond, the collapsed bridge. The bridge can still be crossed by foot or bike. This road is becoming overgrown as it returns to nature, but is used by bikes and walkers. Other bushwalking opportunities exist on the many tracks, but care should be exercised due to the previously mentioned biking activities.
