Located approx 100km NW of Kempsey on the Kempsey/Armidale Rd on the Macleay River. Entrance is opposite the Bass Lodge. The upper section is well grassed but little shade and very popular. Fairly easy access for 2wds, trailers and caravans. However the access is sloping dirt - wet conditions pose a problem.
The lower section is smaller and far more bushy, 4x4 is recommended - the access is via a longer, steeper slope. We did get our 2wd down there, if it rains forget about getting out lol.
Be aware there are agisted cattle there and can pose a problem if your camp is left unattended for any length of time. Dogs come in handy keeping them out lol.
Bring firewood and drinking water.
Great place for swimming, canoeing/kayaking (rapids), fishing (nice Aussie bass) and bush walking or just relaxing. Spent a week there, loved it!
