Seven Mile Diggings

Track Description

Easy, 10km to 30km

Seven Mile Diggings is part of the Old Esk Road and scenic trip to Nanango from Blackbutt.

The road has decomposed granite on it so it can get slippery and the SE-Qld favourite clay base.

Locals use part of the road.

A friend that did the track last wrote: It was easy for about 99% and there was one spot that

was very slippery due to decomposed granite on some steep rock

Closure of Old Esk Road & Access to 7 Mile Diggings
I was looking at planning a trip to Seven Mile Diggings over the June long weekend. Was doing a search for the place and found the web site to the South Bernett Regional Council. Nanango Shire Council

Where I found a notice informing people that Seven Mile Digging and Esk Rd have been closed. I call the council and spoke to a lady who confirmed that it has been closed since November 2007.

She was very helpful and said if any club wanted to see this area re-opened, they could write a letter to the council and it will be tabled at there next meeting. One thing to remember it was closed by the out going council.

Below are the details of who to write to. I believe that Brisbane Jeep Club and Sunshine Coast Jeep Club will tabled this at there next meetings, with a view to write there requests.

If any one, and as the council lady said, you don\'t need to be a member of a club, wants to write a letter requesting the opening of this area, feel free to do so.

2011-03-27 Nissan Patrol It appears that there was a win in maintaining this tracks access, however, from recent floods there is no access across the river unless you have a rockcrawler, we got through the diggings and it looped back to the river which now (if you look at the 3D map) was not only lined, but full of trees, these are now ALL gone, the floods literally moved them downstream taking all the silt with it. This has exposed a large rock crop that is lined with fallen trees. The Diggings themselves made for great 4x4ing but after talking with the volunteers at the Info office it appears that the counselors are heading down to put up the road closed signs as they have now deemed it unsafe, we went through with Patrol, Hilux, Pajero and we all managed to get through unscathed. A lot of work is needed to clear and make new access to cross the river, but very do able. we are considering approaching the council to see if we can get access to do a working-bee. Would be great to see this stay open to us
