On Sunday 2nd may a group from the twisted up 4x4 club decided to do a day trip to Heartbreak hill Bargo NSW. This track runs along the power lines out behind bargo in NSW.
4 cars went out to try. The cars involved were 1x GU Patrol fitted with a Chev V8 diesel and a 4 inch lift ,standard LSD fitted with no lockers. 1x Toyota dual cab Hilux Ute in Standard form apart from tyres. 2 x NP pajeros 1x short wheel base with a 2 inch lift and standard running gear and the 2nd a modified wagon fitted with a 2 inch lift ,front locker and BFGoodridge muds. After negotiating a number of deep ruts we came up to heartbreak hhill. The short wheel base pajero attempted the hill and after a long scrabble up and many a bounce the shorty was able to make it to the top. Next went the Patrol. After gaining 2/3rds of the way the patrol started to lose traction and at this time the patrol bent a rim and deflated a tyre. As the angle of the patrol ended up being precarious changing a tyre was deemed too dangerous. The Patrol then ran out its winch cable. After setting up the winch was engaged but after only about a metre the winched stopped working. After stripping the winch down and control box I was still unable to get the winch going again. It was then decided that the front tyre needed to be changed. This was done but with much anticipation of the vehicle sliding off the jack and rolling down the hill. The trye change was completed and the Patrol was able to get to the top under its own steam.
I have uploaded some of the photos of the day. Unfortunantly they really dont do the hill Justice so just let your imagination go.
