G'day all,

Thought this was a farily advance notice of a trip, but it is only 6-1/2 weeks away !
Edit : Now 5-1/2 weeks !:D

Looking at Carpenter Rocks to Southend for the Australia Day weekend Thurs 26th - Sun 29th January.
(Might even go the other way, to follow Wattle Rangers 4wd Club excellent track notes.)

The pub hol is on Thurs, so an RDO, leave day, or sickie is required for the Friday 27.

Wallaby (ex Melbourne) has expressed an interest, and Carpenter Rocks is about even distance from Adelaide and Melbourne (~ 480km) if any Victorian members are keen to come for a look.

Post a reply here and I'll get onto you via email eventually to work through a bit of a schedule.

Cheers,
Les

Looks like a fantastic trip! Unfortunately that week is exactly the week I'll be attending the Kinston Kiting Festival so won't be able to devote the time for such an adventure but would be delighted to go for a day trip if it would be possible to work one in. We'll be camping down at Kingston for the entire week from the 21st - 29th of Jan and I would love to do a Robe - Beachport run if possible???

All the best,
Slarti.

Yeah, I realised they were two different trips. One was where I wanted to go the other was when I wanted to do it ;)
But both were fairly close (both temperaly and geographicly :p) and neither seemed set in stone quite yet so I messaged both.

After thinking a little more about it I'm thinking a Robe - Beachport run in the earlier part of the week (i.e. before Aust. Day itself) would be ideal for me but unfortunately won't really work in with your plans :s

I was thinking there will be a few 4x4 driving over from Vic to attend the kiting festival so I've put out a message to see if anyone would be interested in meeting up at Beachport and taking the "back way" into Robe on their way to the festival - haven't had any interest yet though. I'll let you know if anything happens.

No worries Slarti, I'll post a complete newbies trip report afterwards, might help you when you go in January.

Cheers,

Final update before this trip.
It's turned out to be a boys run, so we will be camping all the way, probably fishing a bit more, and doing any of the walks to various points of interest.

Day 1 - Heading off as planned Thurs 26th Jan, driving straight to Southend and into Canunda NP, check out the tracks / loops along the point south of Cape Buffon, inc down to Boozy Gully day area, then off to setup camp in Boozy Gully campground.

Day 2 - Drive to McIntyre Beach, follow coastal track to Geltwood Beach access, Geltwood Beach to Geltwood Beach campground, camp there. Quick trip in to Coola Outstation, there's a walk there to check it out.

Day 3 - Coastal track to Cape Banks Lighthouse for last overnight camp.

Day 4 - Drive home, maybe via Coorong / Narrung / Wellington again.

The only uncertain now is how drivable Geltwood Beach will be. Notes say 'access the beach during summer only, EXTREMELY SOFT SAND most of the year'.

Ah well, hoping snatching not needed, second vehicle is Sanngyong AWD thing, should be ok.
Maxtrax will be on board, and I'm making some 3m http://www.4x4earth.com.au/forum/d-i-y/14543-planktrax.html too, so if needed we can drive out onto the planks off the Max, and get along another few metres, hopefully to better ground.
I will be airing down to 15 straight off too this time, see how that goes.

It's only 5k's or so, if all else fails we'll take the inland route.
Gotta watch the high tide at ~ 1600, but it is a 'lower' high tide at least . . . should be off that beach early anyway.

Should be great, looking forward to it.

Cheers,
Les
