Planktrax

Heres my Maxtrax alternative (I personally cant justify $300 for x2 bits of plastic on my income)

Step 1 - Tear down the steps to your front verandah - They are over-rated and just promote visitors anyway

Step 2 - Grab some black spraypaint and spray "Maxtrax" onto the planks - This will drastically improve their value and let people know you arnt scared of spending top dollar on your recovery gear. If you dont have any black spraypaint just use anything - I actually used Rust Convertor. On no account should you spraypaint the planks orange - This just means people are more likely to nick them.

Step 3 - Buy 20bucks worth of tek screws and then kick yourself for forgetting to charge the cordless drill

Step 4 - Stick cordless drill on charge and come back in a hour

Step 5 - Screw in half the tekscrews - Swear alot then plug the drill in again to be recharged as its gone flat again

Step 6 - Finish the job off then hope to god the planks arnt too long to fit in the back of your car as you forgot to check this first

Step 7 - Bask in your handyworks magnificence cause thank god they fit perfectly in the car sideways ;)

I don't care how much anyones income is, like you say "How do you justify $300 for 2 bits of plastic?

They appear to be more than likely used in sand environments. "Let your tyres down folks and don't get bogged in the 1st place"

If you get a stencil you could probably sell them on ebay, and try using longer screws, turn them upside down and sell them to the coppers as tyre deflaters:D:D:D
We used to use old heavy carpet off cuts (and once pulled out a seat belt when the winch cable didn't quite make the nearest tree).

LOL recovery planks AND spike strips in one - hahahahhaha

I actually used screws that dont quite penetrate the other side - With the intention that when we go camping I can flip the planktrax upside down and stick them between a couple of plastic tubs - instant bench seats :)

If you decide to adopt my idea no one will steal your seat when you go for a leak, this could become a serious venture and if it does may I suggest a second battery and an Irish book of swearing by Paddy Murphy so you can expand your vocabulary, this will assist greatly with big production runs.

Lol profoto - If I incorporate your longer screws idea, I could then advertise the seatplanks as having a "unique anti theft security system" which should help sales and fetch a premium price I reckon :D (Perhaps I could also sell it as a "naughty chair" for parents hmmm)

Im also thinking I should spraypaint a bluetooth logo on the side of it (people will buy anything if it has a bluetooth logo) and maybe drill a large hole at one end and I can then I can add "built in toilet" to the features list as well :D

I just had a delivery of materials required to make a new batch of Plank/Seat/SpikeTracks (the real estate replaced the front steps to the house) So I can definatly improve on the original model later on :) Im not so sure they will believe that my steps were nicked again though :D

Jeez - actually its only a week until I go camping :) (leaving next sunday - getting pretty excited)

Heading up there for a few days so I should have plenty of time to figure out what other features the planktrax might be used for :D

Ive only been up to the Barringtons once before myself (took a sportsbike up to fryingpan creek campsite - 14kms of clay road to get there lol) so its still pretty new to me as well as I immediatly got plastered upon arriving and stayed that way till I left and didnt explore anywhere lol

Been looking at some maps, I might have a mate tagging along in his 2WD mazda3 so probably looking at Fryingpan Creek campsite again, and if he doesnt come maybe Coachwood/Telegherry/Currawong campsites are a go-er (from the little I can online tell they might be 4wd only access)

Taking the family this time as a bit of a "get away from it all" Apparently theres a waterfall called "problem creek waterfall" about 1km from Coachwood campsite if you follow the river - Dont suppose anybody knows if its north or south of the Coachwood campsite?

I will take plenty of pics for sure - This is what the area looks like

Should be a good few days I reckon - Ive been purchasing bits of camping gear I needed over the last few weeks in preperation (I only had a tent) so I get to unwrap and try all the new goodies and try them out when I arrive as well :)

As Big Kev used to say "Im EXCITED"

All joking aside........ Like everybody else I struggle to justify that much money for a couple of pieces of plastic (Esp. As I am a toolmaker and know how much plastic costs) would the "planktrax" actually work in sand and/or mud...... In principal they look like they would serve exactly the same purpose and possibly be useful for other things as mentioned above

Im not sure if they are gunna suck underneath the tyres as well as the maxtrax do as they are fairly heavy, but Im hoping with a little shovel work to place them properly - along with the extra tek screws I put on the ends will help the tyres get a decent amount of initial bite and hopefully suck them under enough to start driving onto them (fingers crossed)

Worse case scenario I guess you could just treat them as "packing" by jacking the car up and placing them under the tyres and they would probably give better grip verses crap grabbed from the side of the track and jammed under the wheels in that scenario I suppose

They may come in handy to be used as ramps as well to get past "steps" I guess. Maybe you could even use them as leverage to rock the vehicle if needed when stuck.

Ive heard of Milktrax and Breadtrax before also, (cut the sides off the plastic crates, zip tie em together and instant recovery tracks that fold up apparently) and have heard of people screwing carpet to planks or whatever but I havnt found anybody thats tried tek screws before but I think they should be grippier than just using carpet alone? (hopefully)

As an aside but related in a way, we used to screw bottle tops to the bottoms of our boots when we went rock fishing for extra grip, what you are doing is the reverse by putting the grip on the 'rock' so to speak, unless you can find some bloody big crown seals.

Dont forget to put "I" infront it seems to work extremely well for apple, and ive noticed hyundai has jumped on the band wagon

Yes, the iTrax

Brilliant idea. If they work, make yourself a new set and take the originals straight to the pool room :)
